Module #10: YouTube

I searched YouTube under library foundation and found this informative, very professional interview. It gives an overview of the foundation's role in assisting a public library with various programs. The link is:

Module #8: Facebook

Using exercise 2, I explored facebook.  I liked the cross-stitch interest page and looked at a librarians interest group. I read some of the most recent postings. I did some searching on names - found a few people and a lot of stuff I really didn't want to see - just like most search engines.

Module #9: Virtual Bookshelves

I tried both LibraryThing and Goodreads. One major difference - in LibraryThing you can't add multiple books from an author list.  Highly inconvenient if adding a series. Both download to a spreadsheet, but Goodreads seems to have more fields.
Here's five books I found on Goodreads on my to-read list:

On Food and Cooking: The Science and Lore of the Kitchen
The Path Between the Seas: The Creation of the Panama Canal, 1870-1914
Founding Mothers: The Women Who Raised Our Nation
Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln
Catherine the Great: Portrait of a Woman

Module #7: Twitter

Twitter will take a lot more time than I am willing to devote at work to explore thoroughly.  I checked out a few interest groups - business, science, government, and books.  Books was disappointing - publishers and some authors.  The other areas led to a couple of interesting links, but it takes time to find the gems. I will probably explore this further, but I did learn how to unfollow - not as straight forward as it should be - or am I missing something?

Module #6: image editing

I first tried Picnik and it does auto-adjust photos adequately.
Original photo
Autofix of above photo
I also tried the collage feature.
I tried an old very red photo and the autofix did nothing.  Using pixlr, I was able to adjust the photo close to its original colors.

Further exploration of Flickr

Searching the galleries section, I discovered Flying Birds.  Great photos for anyone interested in either birds or flying.  Flying Birds Gallery on Flickr

Module #5 Flickr

Explored flickr through the places option.  I tried Arlington VA and found this photo of a harvest moon over DC.  Harvest Moon rising II by philliefan99

Module #4: RSS Feeds

Once I got to the correct place on the Journal & Courier, adding the RSS feed was easy. I then added WLFI and created a folder for both. Creating folders will definitely help - with just 2 feeds there is already a lot of stuff to go through.
